COUNSELOR’S CORNER
COUNSELOR’S CORNER – The Power of Apologizing:
Why Saying 'I'm Sorry' to Your Child Matters
Research shows that when parents apologize to their children, it strengthens the parent-child relationship and models healthy communication. Apologizing demonstrates accountability and teaches kids how to handle mistakes constructively. Studies indicate that children who experience such role modeling are more likely to develop empathy, problem-solving skills, and emotional resilience.
By admitting when we're wrong, we show our kids that everyone makes mistakes—and it's how we respond that truly matters. A heartfelt apology can rebuild trust and open the door to honest conversations, helping your child feel valued and understood.
Try it out: The next time you make a mistake, use it as a teaching moment. Apologize, explain what you'll do differently, and watch how your child grows from your example.
